Moral Dilemmas in Huck Finn
In the adventures of huckleberry finn, huck faces a number of moral dilemmas which reveal much about his character.
One moral dilemma huck finn has is he doesn’t know if he should turn Jim in or help him escape to the free states where he can be free and work, and one day be able to buy his family from the slave master. This is an example of one of hucks moral dilemmas because if he helps Jim escape he could be convicted of helping a slave escape and then he goes to jail, or he could turn him and go about his business and maybe get money because he turned him in. so he really doesn’t know what to do, so he has a moral dilemma.
Huck’s decision to help Jim escape was the right thing to do. This was right because he is being a good friend and is not breaking his promise that he would not tell anyone that he knows where a runaway slave is or going. This also was the right thing to do because in the long run he will feel good that he helped someone. And since he helped someone else besides himself he will “reek what he sows” and in this case it will be a good thing.
“People would call me a low down abolitionist and despise me for keeping mum- but that don’t make no difference. I ain’t agoing to tell, and I aint agoing back there anyways”. (Chapter 8 page 32, paragraph 9). Huck says this promising that he wouldn’t tell anyone about Jim being a run away.
Huck fin had a moral dilemma in deciding to either to turn Jim in or helping him escape. He choose to help him and escape and he did the right thing.

Reader response 2: huck finn (7-13)
Tom sawyer has influenced Huck because Huck really looks up to tom. Huck respects tom sawyer and thinks he is cool. “Tom sawyer would ever go by this thing? Not for pie, he wouldn’t, he’d call it an adventure- that’s what he’d land on that wreck if it was his last act”.(chapter 12 page 50. paragraph 3.) I feel that tom is a negative influence on huck finn, I know huck likes tom but tom does bad things and if he hangs around tom I am pretty sure he will get into trouble, or bad things will happen.
Pap has influenced huck because pap does things that are not so smart so huck doesn’t want to be anything like him. Huck is pretty smart and pap isn’t too bright. “I didn’t want to go to school much, much before, but I reckoned id go now to spite pap.”{Chapter 6, page 17, paragraph 1.}pap influences huck in a negative way so huck does things to mack him mad, or to be the opposite of him..
widow douglas has influenced huck by telling him the right things to do. widow douglas trys to influnce huck in a positive way." i didnt see how id ever got to like it so well at the widows. where you had to wash, and eat on a plate, and comb up, and go to bed".{chapter 6,page 18, paragraph 2.} i think widow douglas has influenced huck in a very positive way because she has trying to teach him how to polite respectuful and a good person. she teaches him the right from the wrong.
Jim has influenced huck in a way like no one else can, he can be a positive influence and a negative influence on huck." jim said he reckoned that that the widow was partly right and pap was parttly right; so the best way would be for us to pick two or three things from the list and say we wouldnt borrow them anymore.- then he reckoned it wouldnt be no harm to borrow the others."{chapter 12, page 49, paragraph 3} i think jim is a positive influence because he is older and has seen things that huck hasent and can guide him towards the right path.

Racism:
They call that a govment that cant sell a free n***** till he’s been in the state six months. Here’s a govment that call itself a govment and lets on to be a govment, and yets got to set stock- still for six whole months before it can take ahold of a prowling, thieving, infernal, white- shirted free nigger”. Chapter 5, page 21 paragraph one. I believe this means he is saying a government that lets blacks be free is a bad government . blacks are thieves.
I think the quote was very racist. The quote was disrespectful to blacks and the government. I think only a person who is dumb and uneducated would say something like that. I did not like the quote at all.

1. I think in todays society african american and white american people talk different if they are not around each other. i think they talk different because white and black americans use different slang and different words.
